1. NAAC Grade
The NAAC grade is your first quality check. Look for colleges with a grade of B++ or higher. Grades below B indicate serious quality concerns. You can check any college's NAAC grade on the official NAAC website.
2. NBA Accreditation
For B.Tech and MBA programs, NBA accreditation is essential. Without it, your degree may not be recognised by some employers and international universities. Ask the admission office directly — they are required to disclose this.
3. Placement Records
Do not just look at the "100% placement" claim on the brochure. Ask for:
- The actual placement report with company names and packages
- The percentage of students who were placed vs those who registered
- The median package (not just the average)
4. Faculty Qualifications
Check the college website for faculty profiles. A good engineering college should have at least 40% of faculty with PhDs. For medical colleges, check if the faculty are MBBS/MD qualified and how many are senior professors.
5. Hostel and Mess Facilities
If you are moving from Bihar to another state, hostel quality is critical. Check:
- Room capacity (single, double, or triple sharing)
- Mess food quality (ask current students)
- Security and warden availability
- Medical facilities on campus
6. University Approval Status
Verify that the college is approved by the appropriate bodies:
- AICTE for technical courses (Engineering, Management, Pharmacy)
- UGC for universities and deemed universities
- NMC (formerly MCI) for medical colleges
- BCI for law colleges
**Warning:** If a college is not approved by the relevant body, your degree may be invalid. Always verify on the official websites of these regulatory bodies.
7. Fee Structure and Hidden Charges
Ask for a complete fee breakdown for all 4 years, not just the first year. Many colleges have:
- Exam fees (₹2,000–5,000 per semester)
- Library and lab fees
- Uniform and book charges
- Transportation fees
- Caution money (refundable at the end)
8. Fee Refund Policy
This is critical. If you decide to leave the college after one semester, what happens to your fees? As per UGC guidelines, a college must refund fees after deducting a nominal processing charge (usually ₹1,000). Get this in writing.
9. Student Reviews and Alumni Feedback
Search for the college on Google, YouTube, and LinkedIn. Look for reviews from actual students. Talk to alumni — they will give you the most honest picture of what the college is really like.
10. Scholarship and Loan Eligibility
Check whether the college is eligible for:
- Bihar Student Credit Card (BSCC) — up to ₹4 lakh education loan
- National Scholarship Portal (NSP) schemes
- Post-Matric Scholarship for SC/ST/OBC
If the college is not on the BSCC approved list, you cannot get the education loan. Career Villa can help you verify this — call +91 96434 19947.
