JEE Main 2025 Overview

JEE Main is the gateway to NITs, IIITs, and GFTIs, and is the qualifying exam for JEE Advanced (for IITs). Conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA), it is held twice a year — in January and April. Bihar students can attempt both sessions, and the best score is considered.

Important Dates

  • Session 1 Registration: November 2024
  • Session 1 Exam: January 2025
  • Session 2 Registration: February 2025
  • Session 2 Exam: April 2025
  • Result Declaration: Within 10 days of each session

**Tip:** Register for both sessions. Even if your first attempt does not go well, you get a second chance without wasting a year.

Exam Pattern and Syllabus

JEE Main 2025 has three papers:

  • Paper 1 (B.Tech): Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics — 90 questions (30 per subject), 300 marks
  • Paper 2A (B.Arch): Mathematics, Aptitude, Drawing
  • Paper 2B (B.Plan): Mathematics, Aptitude, Planning

For Paper 1, each subject has 20 MCQs and 10 numerical-value questions (you attempt 5 of 10). Each correct answer gives 4 marks; each wrong MCQ deducts 1 mark.

The syllabus follows the NCERT Class 11 and 12 curriculum with some topics removed in recent updates. Focus on the updated syllabus on the NTA website.

Preparation Strategy for Bihar Students

Bihar students often face challenges like limited coaching infrastructure in smaller cities and lack of exposure. Here is a strategy that works:

1. Master NCERT First

80% of JEE Main questions are directly or indirectly from NCERT. Read every line, every example, every exercise — especially for Chemistry.

2. Solve Previous Year Papers

Solve at least the last 10 years of JEE Main papers. This gives you the exact pattern of questions and difficulty level.

3. Take Mock Tests

Take at least one full-length mock test per week in the last 3 months. This builds stamina and time management.

4. Focus on High-Weightage Topics

  • Physics: Mechanics, Electrodynamics, Modern Physics
  • Chemistry: Organic Chemistry, Chemical Bonding, Coordination Compounds
  • Mathematics: Calculus, Coordinate Geometry, Algebra

Expected Cutoffs

JEE Main cutoff varies by category and year. Based on recent trends:

CategoryExpected Cutoff (Percentile)
